Sutapa Sanyal is a keynote speaker, independent consultant, and trainer on Diversity and Inclusion (D&I), POSH, Women’s Leadership & Gender. Ms. Sanyal draws on her three-decade-plus career in leadership and governance as an IPS officer, to deliver powerful talks and training at some of India’s leading companies such as Boeing, Taj Group, Reliance-Jio, Ernst & Young, and others. She has also delivered a TEDx talk for women titled “Be the CEO of Your Own Life.”
Sutapa has delivered keynotes for industrial bodies including FICCI, CII, PHDCC, and SCOPE, and given talks at educational institutions such as LSE, IIT (Madras), IIM (Lucknow), National Law Universities (Delhi and Lucknow), Delhi University, Amity University, and National Police Academy. Currently, Ms. Sanyal serves as an External Member of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) for several companies and as an independent consultant to the Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation, started by the Nobel Peace Laureate Kailash Satyarthi.
As the first woman to become the Director-General of Police in Uttar Pradesh, Ms. Sanyal has passionately championed gender-responsive community policing. She founded the U.P. Police Mahila Samman Prakoshth (MSP), an award-winning police unit focusing on women's safety and empowerment. As Director-General of MSP, she designed nine outreach programs to protect and empower over 14 crore women and children of the State and forged multiple partnerships with UNICEF, Action Aid, Plan India, and other Civil Society organizations to implement them.
Her work for women & girls has been recognized internationally by the Govt. of the UK and the US Department of State. She was honored as an “Indian Woman Leader” by the British High Commission and met with UK parliamentarians to provide insight on women’s issues in India, and was the only Indian to be invited in 2017 to speak at the ISGCAC Conference of INTERPOL, in France.
Sutapa has served as Chairperson of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of UP Police (the second-largest police force in the world), as Member, Advisory Committee of CARA (Ministry of Women & Child Development), and as Advisor Security, GAIL (India) Limited. She has a Master’s degree in Economics and holds certifications in gender equality and management from Johns Hopkins University and London Business School. Ms. Sanyal has been awarded the Women Economic Forum’s Iconic Women Award, Hindustan Times International Women's Day Award, Indian Express DEVI Award, and the Police Medal for Distinguished Services by the President of India.
