SpeakIn Expert Speaker
A former actor and arts professional, Duncan Keegan is a communications professional and speechwriter who has crafted speeches for two Presidents of Ireland, three Taoisigh (Irish prime ministers) and a number of Irish government ministers. In 2023, he experienced the devastating personal loss of his son Ruairí, which transformed his perspective on life, language and grief. He frequently turns to the artistic, cultural and spiritual depths of Irish tradition and language to explore and restore our sense of shared humanity, creativity, resilience and common purpose.
Keegan was featured on “Thanks for Being Here,” a weekly segment of the podcast Kelly Corrigan Wonders and was a speaker at TED2025 Humanity Reimagined. He is the creator of the Irish language micro-course "The Primer" and is apprenticing as an end-of-life doula in his local community in north Dublin.

I attended this year's TED Conferences remotely. It's been fascinating to watch the progress from 2023's "AI has arrived and look at all the cool things it can do" to "AI has arrived and its going to kill us all" in 2024 and to the big question this year: "AI will be able to do everything we can do but better, what are we still for?" The best answer to this question came from a quiet, beautiful, talk from Duncan Keegan. Take 9 minutes to let him reassure you that AI will never replace what truly makes us special.
