Dr. K. V. Subramanian is a Professor of Finance (on leave) at the Indian School of Business and the 17th Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India (2018–2021). As the youngest CEA, he shaped India’s economic response to the COVID-19 crisis, steering policies that strengthened macroeconomic fundamentals and positioned India for resilient growth. His path-breaking Economic Surveys introduced pioneering ideas such as Ethical Wealth Creation (2019–20), a Strategic Blueprint for a $5 trillion economy (2018–19), and the use of public capital expenditure to counter cyclical shocks (2020–21). His thought leadership on behavioral economics and “Thalinomics” captured public imagination and influenced reform agendas for a self-reliant India. A Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, Dr. Subramanian has published in top global journals across banking, finance, corporate governance, and innovation. He is a Distinguished Alumnus of IIT Kanpur and IIM Calcutta.
