A question I have always pondered –

why some of us have a wonderful time in our lives and a few others who just don’t have enough zest in their daily lives?

I believe the very first thing to know in this regard is that no one can give us the keys to the kingdom of happiness. The kingdom is in us and we already have the keys.

I recently saw this movie ‘Over the Top’ with my husband Vikas, who is an avid Sylvester Stallone fan. The actor plays an arm wrestler in the movie. These are some famous lines from the movie.

“WHAT I DO IS I JUST TRY TO TAKE MY HAT AND I TURN IT AROUND, AND IT’S LIKE A SWITCH THAT GOES ON. AND WHEN THE SWITCH GOES ON, I FEEL LIKE ANOTHER PERSON, I FEEL, I DON’T KNOW, I FEEL LIKE A… LIKE A TRUCK. LIKE A MACHINE”

I could so relate to this switch as the inner power is in each of us and the winners are the ones who listen to the truth of their hearts and choose to do things that make them feel good about themselves.

Inner power

Now if you have house work or some other work to do, and you are tempted to slide, ask yourself how you will feel if you put it off. If you sense that you will be a little disgusted with yourself, then just go on press the switch and do it. See the enjoyment you get from the experience of being in charge of yourself.

House work may seem like a small part of life, but how you feel through the day is life itself, your work etc. Appreciate yourself every time you make the switch happen. When we compliment ourselves the glow of that compliment stays.

Switch is our internal muscle and if we use it often – that is the real growth and that will give you the courage to be free of fear & to face difficult obstacles.

Many people have a barrier to this switch, that is; a preset world view or theories we have set in our mind. Often opportunities knock at our doors instead of looking at them from a fresh perspective, we get stuck with our inner world view and we choose to ignore and live with the status quo.

In many ways adult life begins when we take possession of our own selves, our own integrity. If we can find time to love and nurture ourselves, we will find ourselves richer than we ever imagined –

a whole world is waiting to get explored.

So next time when you do something that makes you feel bad inside, ask yourself whether that’s the way you want to feel. If not, stop doing what makes you feel that way. Instead do things that make you feel good about yourself.

Life is not a picnic or a rose garden. The world is not a run for our own benefit. You need to talk to yourself and let the ‘switch in your mind’ be a good friend in this journey.

  1. There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That is a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game. Both boys and girls feel the impact of just a moment?s pleasure, for the rest of their lives.
