Once I was out for shopping and was about to finish and suddenly my friend Dilip called me and said:

“Please bring me a bottle of shampoo”.

I entered into a shop on the road and asked the dealer for a particular brand of shampoo. He gave me a bottle of 1-litre shampoo stating the price of Rs. 225 per bottle. My pocket was almost penniless after a wide ranged shopping and I was dumbfounded after hearing the price. Seeing the fuss I was in, the dealer suggested me to take sachets of the same brand which was available at Rs. 5 per piece. I delightfully purchased 5 sachets, came home and handed them over to Dilip who was eagerly waiting for it.

The Culture of sachets is wide spread today. Almost the entire gamut of all consumable items are available in sachets, from shampoo to tomato saucesoap to spiceshair oil to drinking water and what not. We all have the experience of purchasing a sachet but we forget to apply the same principle in real life.

In life also, many times we keep running behind stupendous achievements, colossal targets, handsome results, massive bank balance and high amount of happiness. We become elated if we get it and if we don’t, it makes us feel dejected, depressed and hopeless. We start feeling that life has come to an end. But we forget that

WE CAN STILL HAVE A HANDFUL OF THESE THINGS IF NOT IN STUPENDOUS QUANTITY.

If we compare this situation to the incident of purchasing the shampoo bottle, it is like if I can’t purchase the entire 1-liter bottle of Rs. 225 then there is no other option left. Just as the same shampoo bottle is available in the market in the form of sachets similarly our achievements and happiness are also available in the same form.

Keeping our eye always on something ‘big- in future’ is going to snatch away something ‘small- in present’ from our hands.

A drop of water can never be compared with the ocean but we should not forget that same little drops of water make a mighty ocean. No one is asking you to not have big goals in life, everyone wants to cross myriad of milestones of achievements but one should remember that

‘A JOURNEY OF THOUSAND MILES BEGINS WITH A SINGLE STEP’.

So one should be contented for being able to take that single step today.

We need to learn to divide life into small fragments (sachets)- years into months, months into days, days into minutes and minutes into moments and start living every moment. Then you will see how you are elevated from the encumbrance of future and you will find yourself gifted with the ‘present’.
