ABOUT VICKY ROY
Vicky Roy is a renowned photographer from India. Originally from West Bengal, he ran away from his home and came to Delhi. He started working as a rag picker at the New Delhi Railway Station. After that, he also worked at a foot stall before an institution named the Salaam Baalak Trust, Delhi took him under it aegis. The trust helped in his rehabilitation through schooling and healthy upbringing.
He shares with SpeakIn an important lesson from his childhood school days where his teacher told him that if a poor uplifted himself/herself from the clutches of poverty, there would be one poor less in the country.
He studied photography at Triveni Kala Sangam and then apprenticed under Anay Mann. His mentor guided him in youth and stood with him as a strong pillar in support.
In 2007, he showed his photography prowess in form of his first solo exhibition titled, “Street Dream” at India Habitat Centre. In 2008 he was chosen by the US based Maybach Foundation to photo document the reconstruction of the World Trade Center in New York.
He is a winner of the Duke of Edinburgh’s award and he was awarded the MIT Media Fellowship in 2014. He was a part of the Forbes Asia 30 under 30 list in 2016.
In the video, he has inspired us to follow our passions and not materialistic possessions.
