Today there\u2019s also <strong>President Trump<\/strong>.\u00a0I\u2019ve been familiar with the comic book character since childhood. The other Donald is relatively new to me.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">\r\n\r\n<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Let me start with the original one.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">\r\n\r\n<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">For those who don\u2019t know him he\u2019s a white duck with a prominent yellow beak. He usually wears a sailor\u2019s shirt and cap. Although he never wears trousers he always sports a bow tie. Along with his beloved Daisy Duck and three nephews,\u00a0Huey, Dewey and Louie, he was a reassuring companion on hot summer afternoons in the \u201960s and \u201970s.\u00a0We literally beat the heat together!<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">\r\n\r\n<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">The Duck is some 10 years older than the President but they were <strong>both born in June<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">\r\n\r\n<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><em>I wonder if this is why they seem so similar?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">\r\n\r\n<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Let me quote from \u2018Wikipedia\u2019s biography of Donald Duck\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">\r\n\r\n<\/span><\/p>\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\"><strong>\u00a0\u201c<em>Donald is most famous for his semi-intelligible speech and his mischievous and temperamental personality \u2026 Donald\u2019s two dominant personality traits are his short temper and his positive outlook on life.<\/em>\u201d\u00a0Would I be unfair if I said this could also be a description of Mr. Trump?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n<\/blockquote>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">\r\n\r\n<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Part of the Duck\u2019s charm is you\u2019re never quite sure what he\u2019s saying and often suspect he isn\u2019t either.\u00a0As a portrait on BBC News states: \u201cThe secret to his longevity lies in his distinctive \u2013 but unintelligible \u2013 command of language.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">\r\n\r\n<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Most people would say that\u2019s equally true of the President.\u00a0In Mr. Trump\u2019s case it\u2019s not uncommon to work out what he means despite how he has said it. In an interview earlier this month the editors of The Economist were told \u201cwe need reciprocality\u201d. He likes to brag, especially about how skilled he is at something\u2026 his love of bragging often leads him to overestimate his abilities, so that when he sets out to make good on his boasts, he gets in over his head, usually to hilarious effect.\u201d <\/em>Now, which Donald would you say best fits that description? I\u2019ve quoted Wikipedia on the Duck but it could just as easily have been Washington commentary on the President.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">\r\n\r\n<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Of course, both the Duck and the President are great achievers. The Duck has won an Oscar and played a major part in the war effort of the 1940s.\u00a0Such is his fame in Finland voters register a protest by marking the name Donald Duck. The President is, of course, a billionaire and, as Americans love to tell you, the most powerful man on earth.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">\r\n\r\n<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Whenever they appear both the Duck and the President dominate the situation but they\u2019re usually never alone. The Duck family includes Daisy, the three nephews and Uncle Scrooge McDuck. The President\u2019s entourage comprises Melania, Ivanka and Jared.\u00a0He also has three sons but they\u2019re rarely seen.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">\r\n\r\n<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Asked about his creation, Walt Disney once said: \u201cLike many large families we have a problem child. You\u2019re right, it\u2019s Donald Duck.\u201d However, beyond Daisy there are no other female ducks in Donald\u2019s life. The President, as we know, is somewhat different. Not only is he a much married man but his affection for the female sex is legendary.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">\r\n\r\n<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: georgia, palatino, serif;\">Of the Duck it\u2019s been said he\u2019s irascible when things don\u2019t go his way but he has a heart of gold and is devoted to his friends. Now, irascibility is not a quality unknown to the President and, at the moment, things certainly aren\u2019t going his way. But will we ever find out if he has a heart of gold or is devoted to his friends?
