Both are very different.\u00a0 Job change is when you change your company, but you broadly remain in the same function (marketing, sales, finance). People also do different roles staying within the same company, that\u2019s a hybrid switch as most of those roles are done on rotational basis as part of career progression.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this blog I am talking about real career change where you make a switch to something completely different from what you have done in the past, where you leave the comforts of what you know to follow your passion and explore unchartered territories.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As someone who made a career switch 5 years back, I thought it\u2019s a good time to reflect on my journey and share my learnings from it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I often get asked what made me or drove me to make such a drastic change? I say drastic as I went from being a business leader of a multi-million-dollar business vertical, managing 1000 people across 8 countries and 5 continents to being a solopreneur. Some big and small examples of what it meant for me:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Went from having full calendar (including lunch breaks) 5 days a week to absolutely empty calendar with NO meetings for days\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Went from constantly speaking with people in person or phone to NO adult talk till my husband came home in the evenings<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Went from being in an important position where my decisions impacted millions of dollars and people\u2019s careers TO being totally insignificant, it was almost identity crisis!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This didn\u2019t change until first 8-9 months.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As I look back there are three questions that one needs to ask themselves before making the transition\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<!-- Quick Adsense WordPress Plugin: http:\/\/quickadsense.com\/ -->\n<div class=\"fff31b069dab2d4baa9938924ee8e97c\" data-index=\"2\" style=\"float: left; margin: 10px 10px 10px 0;\">\n<script async src=\"\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\r\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\"\r\n    style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\"\r\n    data-ad-layout=\"in-article\"\r\n    data-ad-format=\"fluid\"\r\n    data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-8586106947150931\"\r\n    data-ad-slot=\"5455236699\"><\/ins>\r\n<script>\r\n    (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\r\n<\/script>\n<\/div>\n\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WHY<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WHAT<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">HOW<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Often, we focus a lot on \u2018why\u2019: serve others, make an impact, create value, gain freedom \u2013 these lofty \u2018whys\u2019 are good and very important and become our driving force.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We also have a fairly good idea of \u2018what\u2019 we want to do \u2013 work with people, develop a product, create a new service line etc. Though in my experience it\u2019s not as strongly crafted as the \u2018why\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s the \u2018how\u2019 that is often the weakest link. We don\u2019t spend enough time on detailing out the plan \u2013 checks and balances. The myth is that if your \u2018why\u2019 is clear you will figure out the \u2018how\u2019 but unfortunately it doesn\u2019t work like that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Great strategy with poor execution doesn\u2019t give desired results!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For me I had to work hard on my \u2018what\u2019 and \u2018how\u2019 both!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I worked with an executive coach to get clarity on the \u2018what\u2019. She helped me leverage my strengths and experiences to clarify the area that I could become an expert in.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For my \u2018How\u2019 I reached out to my mentors who guided me. I started to leverage my experience of 20 years of working with clients, risk taking, reaching out to people, working with diverse teams in my journey to becoming an executive coach and a professional speaker.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Again, there is a clear distinction between a coach and mentor \u2013 that will be another blog!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If I had the answer to all three questions at the start of my journey, I am sure I would have cut short my transition period by 6 months!
